Aerial Lift
This course covers safe operating and inspection procedures for Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP) and both Group A Type 3 – self-propelled elevating work platforms (scissors lifts) and Group B Type 3 – boom supported elevating work platforms. O.S.H.A. and ANSI standards will also be covered. PPE and other safety equipment will be reviewed. Hands on operating skills will be evaluated. Qualification cards will be issued upon completion.

Armstrong Suspended Drywall Grid Ceilings & Soffit
This course will focus on job planning, layout, creation of templates, and installation of flat drywall grid ceiling and soffits. Stick built and modular suspended ceilings and soffits will be fabricated using various drywall grid components. These Armstrong components include Drywall Grid, QuikStix®, ShortSpan®, Stucco/Plaster Grid®, strong backs, and Drywall related accessories. Upon satisfactory completion of this course, the member will become an Armstrong Certified Installer.

AutoCAD
AutoCAD is the standard design software used in the engineering, architecture, interior design and construction industries. Learn to create two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) computer drawings.

Basic Computer
This introductory 5-hour course covers the fundamentals of computer use. Students will be introduced to Microsoft Office and Google programs, including typing, spreadsheet and slideshow applications. We will learn to search the web effectively, check e-mail, and download and save files. A portion of the class will be tailored to individual student needs, whether you want to learn how to upload photos from your phone, create good looking invoices or resumes, or use the DUA website. No previous experience necessary.

Confined Space
Statistics compiled by NIOSH show that confined space accidents, more than any other type of workplace emergency, are likely to result in death. This course is designed for UBC members who work around and may be required to enter confined spaces. Utilizing a chamber mockup with several entry points, the trainee is guided through safe, step-by-step working and emergency rescue procedures. Fall Protection

Firestopping
This class will feature a variety of residential and commercial firestopping materials and applications, as well as a demonstration of practical firestopping in action. Appropriate work clothes required for shop projects. Penetrations through walls, ceilings, floors and joints will be addressed.

First Aid & CPR
This course will present the knowledge and skills needed to respond to various jobsite emergencies including airway obstruction, rescue breathing cardiac emergencies and CPR. Forklift Over Rough Terrain

Scaffolding Use
This course provides training for scaffolding used in industrial applications. It includes:
- Systems scaffolding in a boiler application
- Hanging scaffolding using both Tube & Clamp and Systems (cuplock)
- Cantilevered scaffolds using both Tube & clamp and Systems (cuplock)
- Compression type
- Tension type
All applicants must be able and willing to work in elevated areas.

Scaffold Erector
This course presents the OSHA regulations for scaffolding, including fall protection requirements. Members who successfully complete the regulations are then required to complete hands-on training for: Welded Frame and Mobile Tower, Tube and Coupler, and Systems scaffolding that OSHA has identified as the most prominent types of scaffolding in construction. Members completing this 40-hour course receive a Scaffold Erector and User Qualification card from the UBC that is valid for 4 years.

Silica Awareness
This course is a 4-hour workshop that explores the peculiar hazards of respirable crystalline silica (RCS). The definition of silica, its properties, and the dangers it presents are all described. The particular health hazards are also presented along with ways in which UBC members can protect their health and the health of their families and loved ones. The various ways of controlling exposure, the responsibilities of employers, and the standards and regulations applied by various governmental agencies are also discussed.

Solar Installer
This course will provide a general description of the types, design, components, and installation methods for photovoltaic systems used in various renewable energy applications. Basic array location, assembly, and how to identify industry standards for residential, commercial, and large solar installations will be covered. The manufacturers’ instruction guidelines will be used to construct typical rooftop and ground mount solar arrays.

Welding
This course is designed for the beginning welder and covers both oxyacetylene torch work and arc welding (stick). Includes class discussion on theory, safety and practical uses of welding. E-6013 electrodes will be used for the arc welding portion and various joint and joint preparations will be covered.
